HFL and the Enviroment
HFL cares passionately about the environment and our social responsibility to
reducing our effects on it. HFL's Environmental Committee are responsible for
the ongoing development and management of our Environmental Policy and
investigating new and innovative ways to improve our impact on the environment.
Examples include:
-
Car sharing incentives
-
Carbon offsetting initiatives
-
Cycle-to-work weeks (including horse-riding to work!)
-
Water-saving initiatives
-
Paper-saving initiatives
-
Energy-saving initiatives
HFL staff are also willing to get their Wellington Boots on and have initiated
the following very direct and practical projects:
Snail Wood - Haven For Life
Snail Wood is an area of wood on HFL's 32 acre site, managed by a Steering Group
of HFL employees. The Snail Wood vision is to inspire and create a sustainable,
native community woodland project for education, recreation and the future for
the benefit of HFL staff, the local community, schools and the environment.

or contact us directly to find out more. Our
Snail Wood Project project was founded with the support from The Green Light
Trust (www.greenlighttrust.org)
'...to bring communities and landscapes to life through hands-on learning and
the growing of woodlands'.
HFL Gardening Club
This club was founded as a result of a staff improvement form suggestion. By
helping to maintain HFL's beautiful grounds, the club gives people a chance to
relax, exchange gardening ideas and make a real difference to our work
environment.
HFL and the Community
As part of our commitment to our local community, HFL shares it's core
scientific knowledge and engages in joint environmental projects with local
schools and the wider community.
HFL staff have established a voluntary School Liaison Team who have established
strong relationships with local schools. We regularly hosts visit to our
laboratories and give talks to support the core curriculum on topics such as:
-
Drugs in Sport
-
Gene Doping
-
Sports Supplements: Use and Abuse
-
Pharmaceuticals and Drug Development
