Canine Drug Surveillance

HFL has a long and successful relationship with greyhound racing. We are continually producing pioneering research and development work and our tests are always changing to maintain the integrity of canine sport and address new threats.

Urine Screening Analysis
We offer drug screening tests that detect substances that are prohibited by the Rules of Greyhound racing

  • anabolic agents
  • stimulants
  • bronchodilators
  • anaesthetics
  • corticosteroids
  • tranquillisers
  • narcotics
  • painkillers
  • diuretics
  • sedatives

Confirmatory analysis

A suspicious screening finding should always be confirmed by a second confirmatory analysis that utilises techniques designed to identify individual prohibited substances according to their unique molecular structure. Confirmatory analytical data is designed to withstand legal scrutiny.
This means:

  • An individual scientist qualified to give evidence at judicial review, conducts the entire analysis
  • The sample analysis performed in isolation, separated from other samples
  • Fully detailed documentation to support the conclusion
  • Multiple integrity checks throughout

Techniques

The laboratory is equipped with state of the art equipment and uses a combination of techniques including:

  • Mass spectrometry
  • Gas Chromatography
  • Liquid Chromatography
  • Immunoassay

We can also provide data archiving, secure sample storage facilities and sample collection kits.
