QUOTIENT BIORESEARCH AQUIRES ALBA BIOSCIENCE LIMITED
The acquisition is being funded entirely with equity provided by the existing shareholders of Quotient BioResearch (Paul Cowan, Helical Bar plc and Dencora Estates Limited) and the management of Alba Bioscience.
With effect from August 31, 2007, Alba Bioscience Limited (a newly formed subsidiary of Quotient BioResearch Limited) will take over the trade and assets of the former Alba Bioscience. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alba Bioscience is a leading, technology-based business focused on the manufacture and sale of blood-typing reagents and systems worldwide. Built up over 40 years, Alba Bioscience has an excellent reputation for the supply of vital blood-typing reagents and other products used by the National Health Service, major diagnostics companies and blood transfusion services worldwide.
Established in early 2007, Quotient BioResearch aims to build a global group focused on the provision of high value-added analytical and safety evaluation services and products to the healthcare, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. In January 2007, Quotient BioResearch acquired HFL Limited, a leading UK provider of drug evaluation and drug testing services.
Paul Cowan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Quotient BioResearch Limited said “Alba Bioscience and its management team have developed an excellent reputation for the supply of products that are critical to safe blood transfusion practice. Through its continuous focus on new product development Alba Bioscience has also built a strong technology base, which should allow it to benefit further from its past success. Quotient BioResearch will seek to accelerate the introduction of a number of new products presently in development by Alba Bioscience.”
Under its existing management team, Alba Bioscience will remain headquartered in Edinburgh, ensuring consistency of employment for its 60 staff. A major investment programme in the Edinburgh area over the coming years is envisaged by Quotient BioResearch to support the future expansion plans of Alba Bioscience.
Mr. Keith Thompson, National Director of SNBTS said “Becoming a part of Quotient BioResearch represents a huge opportunity in Alba Bioscience’s development and will allow further expansion into new markets. The company will retain a key bio-manufacturing facility in Scotland, which will provide employment opportunities and give continuity of supply to customers at home and abroad. I am confident that under the Chairmanship of Paul Cowan, supported by the existing management, Alba Bioscience will thrive. “
“SNBTS has been highly supportive in the growth of Alba Bioscience” said John Allan, Chief Executive Officer of Alba Bioscience. “Under new ownership we will continue to build upon our past success and further accelerate the development of key products to be offered to both hospitals and blood transfusion services in Scotland and worldwide. We look forward to working closely with other members of the Quotient BioResearch group to achieve the ambitious goals we have set ourselves.”
